Gauge decides everything. A heavy gauge knit works as outerwear on a mild day and layers over a tee for a cold one. A finer gauge sits under a jacket without bulk. For the European surf calendar, one of each covers roughly eight months. Natural fibres handle damp air better than synthetics and smell better after a long day, which matters more than anyone admits.
