Shirts & Flannels: The Third Layer of Civilization

The woven shirt department: flannels, cords, twills, and the short sleeve shirts that make a European summer look intentional.

This is what you wear when a tee feels underdressed and a jacket feels like commitment, which describes roughly every coastal evening from Ericeira to Biarritz. Cut relaxed, built to be worn open over a tee or buttoned against the wind off the Atlantic. The third layer of surf civilization.

      How to Choose a Shirt

Match the weave to the season. Short sleeve wovens and lighter twills carry the Mediterranean summer; flannel shirts and brushed cottons own the Atlantic autumn, when the swells arrive and the air at Hossegor drops to 14°C before the water does. Fit is relaxed but cut, meaning room through the body without the bedsheet effect, and every shirt here works open, closed, or knotted into whatever the evening becomes.

      What Is in the Range

Mens shirts and flannels: plaid flannel shirts in proper brushed weights, corduroy overshirts that flirt with jacket status, short sleeve prints for the August crowd, and solid twills for everyone avoiding it. Chest pockets are standard, hems are square enough to wear untucked, and the palette runs from coastal neutrals to flannel plaids with actual conviction.

      Why Vissla

Surf trips in Europe are mostly land time: drives, ferries, long dinners, surf checks in wind that means it. The woven shirt is the uniform for all of it, so we build ours with fabric weight you can feel and patterns that survive past one season. It is the most photographed layer in any van, and we take that responsibility seriously enough.

A good shirt closes arguments. Preferably while open.
