Warm Layers: The Gear That Never Gets Photographed

Overshirts, fleece and sweaters for the part of surfing that happens in a car park at 8°C with wet hair. Not glamorous, worn more than anything else you own.

Heavier fabrics, longer cuts, and enough structure to go over a hoodie without looking like an accident.

How to Layer for a European Winter Surf

The session is the easy part. Getting warm afterwards is what decides whether you go back tomorrow. The working order is a dry base layer, a fleece or heavy knit over it, and a wind resistant shell on top, all of it easy to pull on with numb hands. A changing poncho covers the transition, and a beanie does more than any of it because most heat leaves through a wet head.

      What Is in the Range

Overshirts in brushed and heavyweight fabrics, fleece pullovers and full zips, and knits substantial enough to count as outerwear on a mild day. Cut generously so they layer instead of fighting each other, in colours that hide the reality of a beach car park.

      Why Vissla

We build for the whole surf, not the twenty minutes of it that photographs well. Recycled fleece and organic cotton throughout, construction that survives being stuffed damp into a boot, and fits designed by people who have stood shivering in Hossegor in February.

The layer you reach for without thinking. That is the highest compliment this category gets.
