      Sandals: Footwear for the Off Duty Months

      From June to September, large parts of coastal Europe operate at sandal latitude. The Algarve hits 30°C, the Mediterranean stops pretending to be cold, and shoes become a formality nobody asked for.

      How to Choose Sandals

      Consider the terrain. Beach-only days are easy: anything comfortable that sheds sand. But European summers involve more walking than advertised. Cobblestones in Ericeira, the long hot path down to the cove, the evening promenade that turns into four kilometers. For that, you want a contoured footbed and a strap that does not saw at your foot by dinner. If your sandals will get wet, and they will, pick materials that dry fast and do not hold the smell of the sea forever.
