Kids Wetsuits: Warm Children Keep Surfing

Cold children quit. That is the entire science of kids wetsuits. A child who is warm in the water at La Torche or San Sebastian will surf until physically removed; a child who is cold lasts eleven minutes and remembers it all winter.

Vissla kids wetsuits run the same high stretch neoprene, thermal lining, and sealed seams as the adult range, cut down for small humans. Because the junior lineup of Hossegor deserves better than stiff bargain rubber.

How to Choose a Kids Wetsuit

Same physics as adults, less body mass to defend, which means kids get cold faster and need their rubber more. For European summer water from 15 to 20°C, a kids 3/2 full suit is the standard: Portuguese surf camps, French beach breaks, Spanish family holidays. For warm Mediterranean water a 2mm spring suit does the job. If your family surfs into the autumn, a 4/3 keeps the stoke alive past October. When in doubt go warmer; no child ever quit surfing because they were too comfortable.

      Fit Is Everything

A kids wetsuit should be snug everywhere with no pooling at the lower back and no gaping at the neck. Yes, they grow. Buy the size that fits now anyway, because a baggy suit pumps cold water and defeats its own purpose, and a season of warm sessions is worth more than a suit that fits in two years. Check the wrists and ankles: good seals there cover a multitude of sizing sins.

      Built Like the Real Thing

These are not pool toys. Vissla kids wetsuits use the same stretch neoprene and sealed seam construction as the adult suits, because kids surf in the same ocean. Older groms should check the youth wetsuit range for bigger sizes. Warm kids surf longer. Longer surfing kids become surfers. You are welcome.
