Sounds Biscuits | Noa Mizuno
For our latest Sound Biscuits, we tapped Hawaii-born and bred surfer, Noa Mizuno, one of our long standing Creators & Innovators. A wildly impressive human both in and out of the water, he's the type of surfer we always strive to be: cool, calm, collected, and comfortable on just about any board you can dream up. Style always transcends trends, be it in the water or behind some turntables and we see music as being a big part of it. Dive in and take a listen to the tracks that make Noa tick.
Give Noa a follow on IG, you won't be disappointed.
Where were you when you made the playlist?
At my house, in the living room on my couch.
What’s the ideal place to listen to it?
The idea place is everywhere. You need to listen to it throughout your day. But you could listen to it in your room. For four hours if you choose to.
Top 3 bands/DJs?
Not Ween. Smashing Pumpkins would be one because I have two songs on the playlist which is rare, Turnstile and New Order. DJ’s would be Peggy Gou, awesome producer, Black Coffee and Four Tet.
What track from this would you want for your next edit and where would you be surfing?
It all depends on where everything is because I cannot name the circumstance of what… I just can’t. That’s too hard of a question.
How long have you been DJing and what’s your vibe?
I’ve been DJ’ing for… I started when I was sixteen. I’m 25 now so it’s been like nine years. But, I don’t consider myself being a legit DJ. I just like playing the music I like, ya know? I like playing the music I like and usually, where I’m from, that doesn’t really pan out. But I’m proud of it because fuck, I like playing the stuff I like and that’s how it should be. Music is a big part of my life and I’m going to play whatever I feel.
You’re stuck on a deserted island, what’s the one album you’d take with you?
Brushfire Fairy tales. I’d bring that to the island, and I’d probably be happy on that island forever because there would be a perfect, long left and a right maybe? I’d probably have one of his boards (points at Alex Lopez) and I’d be happy. But where is this island? It could be the island where I’m from...
Tell us a bit about your playlist, what influenced it?
Two words. Techno Viking. No ha my daily life. What I’ve experienced, places I’ve been to, the friends I have and the music they listen to. It’s a lot of things.
Play it on shuffle or straight through?
Straight through. It’s meant to be played straight through.
Most iconic song and surf section pairing in a film?
That’s a good question. I have two in my mind, but it has to be “F-Stop Blues” from September Sessions.
What do the next 3 months look like for you? Where you headed?
Find some more music, surf some waves. I’m headed to New York City. I’m gonna go watch Peggy Gou and cruise with my little sister. It’s a side quest.
